Expedition 18 - NASA ASTRONAUT TALKS WITH STUDENT CHESS OPPONENTS Print

NASA astronaut Greg Chamitoff, in a live linkup from aboard the International Space Station, fielded questions from his student chess opponents in an Earth vs. space game that is under way. Chamitoff spoke with the U.S. elementary chess champions and their chess club teammates from Stevenson Elementary School in Bellevue, Wash. The students, who spoke with Chamitoff from the Bellevue Community College's Carlson Theater, are key players in the Earth vs. space match, proposing moves that are voted on by the public. The match began Sept. 29. The public may view the current status of the game an vote on upcoming moves via the the U.S. Chess Federation web site at: www.uschess.org .
