Expedition 17 - Spaceflight Participant Landing Print

Expedition 17 and Soyuz Commander Sergei Volkov, Flight Engineer Oleg Kononenko and American Spaceflight Participant Richard Garriott landed safely on the steppes of Kazakhstan on Oct. 24, 2008, after bidding farewell to the newly- arrived Expedition 18 crew and undocking their Soyuz TMA-12 spacecraft from the International Space Station. Volkov and Kononenko completed six months aboard the station, and Garriott wrapped up 11 days in space and 9 days aboard the station, following launch on Oct. 12 and docking on Oct. 14 under a commercial agreement with the Russian Federal Space Agency. After being extracted from their capsule in Kazakhstan, Volkov, Kononenko and Garriott were assisted by Russian personnel into reclining chairs to begin their adaptation to gravity. .
