Expedition 18 Commander Mike Fincke, Flight Engineer and Soyuz Commander Yury Lonchakov and spaceflight participant Charles Simonyi landed safely on the steppe of Kazakhstan on April 8, 2009, after bidding farewell to the newly arrived Expedition 19 crew and undocking their Soyuz TMA-13 spacecraft from the space station. Hours later, the trio received a traditional welcoming in Karaganda, Kazakhstan and then returned to Chkalovsky Airfield near the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center at Star City, Russia, outside Moscow.
