Technicians at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida have made the final planned installation of space shuttle main engines into an orbiter.

On Dec. 7, space shuttle main engine 1 was installed onto Atlantis in Kennedy’s Orbiter Processing Facility-1 (OPF-1). Engine 3 was transported from Kennedy’s Space Shuttle Main Engine Shop to OPF-1 the same day. On Dec. 8, engine 3 was installed, and engine 2 was transported into Atlantis’ processing hangar. On Dec. 9, engine 2 was installed.

B-roll includes time-lapse video of all three main engines being installed into a shuttle, the first time such images have been recorded.
